Hazel

Vicary's Hazel Licky Monster, call name "Hazel", is our second chocolate labrador. Labradors became my favorite dog due to their immediate training abilities. Hazel is very attentive and obey's commands. She loves to please and was very easy to train. She learned to shake and sit at 9 weeks old.

Known for her energy and willingness to learn and please, she has been a very loveable family companion for us. She's reliable and well trained. She loves her eggs, sardines and fruit for treats. I feed my dogs "Black Gold Premium" dog food for high protein, but while pregnant, they get chicken broth, eggs, milk, lake perch, sardines, salmon, jack mackral, or catfish. I mix this into a high quality brand puppy food such as "Iams Smart Puppy". I want my labs to have beautiful coats and get the food they love and need. Being waterdogs, I am quite sure their ancestors used to live on lots of fish!

Hazel is a smaller lab (about 5.8lbs below AKC standard weight). However, for those who appreciate the breed but want a smaller labrador due to age or living arrangements, her size is perfect. She possesses all the great labrador qualities such as temperament and intelligence. Hazel's coat color is a rich chocolate. On 3/19/2008 she weighed in at 49.2lbs. Her vet checkup was good and she received her annual vaccinations. She was put on IverHart Max heartworm preventative. IverHart Max is administered once a month to prevent heartworm disease and to treat and control roundworms, hookworms and tapeworm infections in dogs.

Hazel has a great attitude and eagerness for learning! She's the oldest of our labs as she was born on July 4th, 2005. She's very strong and fast! She can sniff out her toys & tennis balls when you hide them. Hazel gets very excited when it comes to playtime!

Chocolate labs are beautiful dogs and so far, in my opinion they've been the most eager to learn and a bit protective as well. As a woman, I like that in a dog. Let me remind you that Hazel is not agressive at all and allows our children to lay on her. Labradors are not agressive dogs and are not guard dogs by any means.

Our goal for Hazel this year is to train her to hunt for material things.

Hazel's genetics are "bbEe". She is a chocolate lab (bb) that carries the yellow gene (Ee).

We've done some extended research of Hazel's father's side of her pedigree. It seems her great-grandfather (which is Hannah's great grandfather also) , CH HILLTOP COUNTRYSIDE BARN BURNER stems from a line of British/English Kennels with the Bradking Kennel and Sandylands being the majority.

You can review more of Hazel's & Hannah's extended pedigree here.
We will continue to work to improve our extended pedigrees.

Here are the x-rays of Hazel's hips. The vet says that Hazel's hips are good.
We are in the process of sending them to the OFA for a rating.
I strongly suggest you view and read up on Hip X-rays and clearances at Leerburg.com

Hannah

Vicary's Hannah Trainwreck, call name "Hannah", is our first yellow labrador. We chose her because she was the largest in her litter and she was very calm and mild tempered. When she was younger she was very pure white with pure black eye rims and a black nose, but her color is showing some yellow now that she's over 2 years old. Hannah just loves to get dirty too! So she doesn't stay white for long.

Hannah is our big baby and wants to be loved lots. When she wags her tail, her whole body wags with her. She likes to play "football" and knows the word all too well! Hannah tries to block and retreive. She's just a big farm dog. We gave her the name "Trainwreck" because she is so powerful that when she comes running at you, it would be a "train wreck" if she hit you. She's my husband's favorite because he loves big husky dogs and ones with a lot of power behind them.

Hannah would not be a good dog for an apartment or an elderly person because she's so big, but for the person who has a large yard with a lot of room to run, this type of dog would be great! Hannah has a threatening bark and barks to let us know of any visitors. If I didn't know her puppy-like personality, I'd be a bit scared to walk up to a home with her around.

Hannah is a larger lab. On 3/19/2008 she weighed in at 69.6lbs. Her vet checkup was good and she received her annual vaccinations. She was put on IverHart Max heartworm preventative. IverHart Max is administered once a month to prevent heartworm disease and to treat and control roundworms, hookworms and tapeworm infections in dogs. Hannah was born August 25, 2005. She can sit, shake, speak loudly and speak softly, lay down, go "nite-nite" and knows to go to her kennel when we say "Kennel" and has adapted well to our in-ground fencing system to protect her from the road.

Hannah loves our 4 kids. They lay right on top of her and she's fine with it. They can also take bones or food away from her with no problem. She does alert us if anyone pulls in the driveway or walks in the yard...even the rabbits don't get away with it! She's never been aggresive in any way though. I don't know of any labrador that's been aggresive.

Hannah is taller & has a wider (blockier) nose than Hazel. But Hannah doesn't care to bring you back anything you throw in order for her to retrieve, she'd rather keep it for herself to play with & see you chase her for it. But she learns very quickly so a little more training on my part would probably help with that. But I find it too cute that she's so different from Hazel in that way by having her own style of playing. She's the very lovable kind of dog that kids enjoy hanging on and she doesn't mind a bit. She loves to sleep with everyone at night, but she takes up most of the bed! And if you tell her to get down, the puppy eyes get to you and you give in because you want her to know she's loved.

Hannah's genetics are "Bbee". She is a yellow lab (ee) that carries the black gene (B) and a chocolate gene (b).
